好久没听新歌了。封在这里，虽说到处有免费报纸传单可拿，但是八卦杂志却只能在偶尔去超市时才能瞄上一眼了。

传说，唯一比我这program开课早的就是法学院了。

13号起了大早去系里参加新生的orientation，不出所料，40多人的program里还是有相当部分的亚洲面孔的。见过几位教授，抽空去了趟医院取TB结果，居然发现传说中那块位于学校中心的、著名的玉米地居然就在我们系楼东边不远——当然，小了点儿——始于某世纪的玉米试验田一块，据说管理还是挺严格的，嗯。

Anyway，自orientation开始，前一周那种四处乱跑的生活就结束了。系里请了法学院的Thomas S Ulen教授做每天上午的lecture，下午在lab培训电脑，晚上则是Leila讲math review。很喜欢Prof. Ulen的lecture，——不是说喜欢他东拉西扯离题千里plus成天威胁最后一次课要考试——讲到不少背景知识。培训电脑也还行，除了把系统全换成英文的时候有点lost之外，新软件也算好操作。问题在于math review。都是以前学过的东西不错，关键是，X⁵拿英文怎么说？微分呢？斜率呢？碰到从港科大交换过来的学弟说他们在香港上课没问题交流有问题，不禁惶然。

跟Prof. Toossi (sounds like “2C”, says himself ^-^) 讨论选课，逛了UI的self-service系统，好玩的是，这里的选课会告诉你上课时间地点教师名字联系方式，但是，用什么教材则要到学校各书店的网站上去查，或者直接去书店找——书店会把每门课每个教师所要用的教材分门别类整理好，嗯，business。

P.S. 教材好贵啊，动不动就一百五、六十一本，书店的二手也至少要八、九十刀。难怪Amazon的生意那么好~

没有特意倒过时差，然而刚到那周，确实是每天很早起床，兴奋的不得了。

6号凌晨才睡下，早上6、7点就醒来了。磨磨蹭蹭的去和同学们汇合，走一两百米去最近的加油站商店里买早点。这里8月份还是相当热，太阳很晒。路边是大片的草地，荒草丛生，稍显歪斜的木质电线杆边，立了要卖地的牌子。马路在前方就有上坡，看不到远处的样子，只偶尔有车辆驶过，没有行人的影子，颇有某种西部片里的感觉。

依然是同行二十来人，由施GG领着，东拐西绕的找到ISSS Office，注册的人员看到我们这么多人同时来似乎相当惊讶，得知我们是一趟飞机到的后，开玩笑说那飞机肯定相当挤-.-b。办了注册，去书店办I-CARD，各自散了去系里继续报道，去研院交成绩单，去做TB测试，去开银行账户，去办手机，去买电话卡，去找房子，去看房子，频繁的“搬家”……

一直不知道大学四年自己的英语到底长进了多少。开口说话，有些意思还是表达不清楚，听人解释，各种口音俗语远比电影电视里来的复杂。陌生的校园，不同的地点不同的人不同的语言，暴晒的天气，每天手拿地图东奔西跑，时时都像新的探险。
